jogger

The lights, each one a star
her star
follow her jagged path down the street
the music thrumming in her mind
Be aggressive, be aggressive
the lights bouncing along
with the rhythm

they know, the lights,
the know her fix--
the endorphin rush which gives her that moment
of immortality
as she breaks
the sound barrier
the barrier of the curb
at the edge of the road, the dry place
at the fringes of the puddles

the immortality of
an iPod, a pair of springy shoes
and a neon jacket
