Spotted slug

If you put your finger out
just so
and block his leafy path
her eyes retreat
to their soft ganglion haven
then emerge cautiously,
first left
then right
on slippery stalks

His sticky foot
slides forwards, just enough
to edge her mouth
onto your finger’s
salt-tip

He slides his tongue,
stony surprise,
rough as a cat’s
across your skin, tasting
briny dew
her molluscan kiss
startling out unexpected
giggles of delight

Giggles! I love where your mind goes, slug sensuality! Once when I was a kid I picked up a banana slug and carried it across the campground. My mother tried and tried to clean my hands after but that slime should have been bottled as super glue! I think it took days to wear off completely.

I can practically hear the giggles. Super cool! (Yeah, I know... I keep running out of adjectives around this place :D)

Contemplating Slugs

The point is how this
simple creature is so far
ahead in some ways,
sophisticated,
as if two creatures in one,
that it is too hard
for me to sit here
any more like I'm the top
of the pyramid.

Oh! Slug memories...

late nights
slipping barefoot
through the dark
forever footwear
that tattled every time

Rach- only you could make a slug lovely through poem. We feed ours cat food. They seem to like it. You've given them a personality and quality beyond slither. nice work! ~rick

And here I set out dishes of beer trying to rid them from my flower gardens - Catvibe you should try vinegar next time you get slug slime on you.
I once had a bejeweled snail - its shell encrusted with pearls & rhinestones. I loved that snail so much! Karen, you might remember that from eons ago...

Rachel, your poem is simply magical and fairy-ish. Truly a special verse!

Fav lines:
her eyes retreat
to their soft ganglion haven
then emerge cautiously,
first left
then right
on slippery stalks - WOW!

I was almost liking the slug. Almost. And then "molluscan kiss" got my antennae up! Durnabit slugs! (Stepped on a few barefoot and I've never been the same!)

I'm running out of adjectives, too! Excellent, awesome, fantastic, superb!

I was thinking of all sorts of childhood memories (yeah, I played with slugs). But then...giggle! I love that added sensual touch.

I love those lines K mentions. They're also my favorite and portray the slug so well. The line breaks are perfect timing. "First left/then right" is excellent. I can see that funny eye looking around.

Yes, you have shown us the beauty of slugs. I love it!

Thank you all! Christopher, you've hit on it exactly.

If you've ever been kissed by a slug, you'll never see them the same way again. When I was a kid I remember people being so cruel to them. Now it is unfathomable to me.
